  • Sonardyne Ranger 2 Gyro USBL
  • Sonardyne Ranger 2 Gyro USBL

Ranger 2 from Sonardyne is a sixth-generation (6G) ultra-short baseline (USBL) underwater positioning system. It offers a standard operating range of up to 7,000 m and the ability to simultaneously track up to 99 subsea targets (eg sidescan sonars, ROTVs, ROVs and structures) at very fast update rates. Supports all industry standard DP telegrams and acoustically aided INS.

Pre-calibrated

The latest generation design is supplied in-water pre-calibrated, meaning that you can get to work as soon as it’s fitted, saving you valuable vessel time.

Sonardyne Ranger 2 Gyro USBL comprises of the navigation sensor hub (NSH), a topside PC, Ranger 2 software, the lodestar gyro USBL 5000 transceiver and an installation kit.

AHRS and HPT 5000 transceiver

Designed for Ranger 2, the Gyro USBL is an all-in-one instrument that combines Sonardyne’s 6th generation (6G) high performance transceiver (HPT) and Lodestar attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) in the same unit. This combination eliminates alignment errors seen in conventional USBL systems that are dependent upon a vessel’s own attitude and heading sensors.

The HPT 5000 is a high-precision acoustic and telemetry transceiver designed for use with Ranger 2 USBL and Marksman LUSBL systems. HPT 5000 enables targets offer wide range of water depths to be tracked. The unit is highly versatile and can be deployed other-the-side, through-tube or through-hull.

HPT 5000 offers full hemispherical acoustic coverage so it is a popular choice for tracking multiple targets (ROVs, AUVs, towfish, seafloor sensors) over a wide range of depths and elevations. The unit is also suitable for dynamic positioning reference on survey, research and offshore support vessels.

The transceiver fully supports 6G LBL operations using Fusion 2 LBL software. It is also a highly capable acoustic communications modems, able to interrogate, command and recover data payloads from deployed Sonardyne instruments including AMTs and Fetch. Supporting telemetry rates of up to 9,000 bps minimises the time a vessel has to wait on location to recover data. as well as supporting LBL operations.

Compatibility with WSM 6+ Omni and Directional Transponders.
