Sonardyne's positional equipment dives into EIVA's rental pool

14 February 2020

In 2019, EIVA joined the Sonardyne group of companies (named Covelya Group as of October 2021), and naturally, as part of our future collaboration we have invested in equipment produced by Sonardyne. These new high-end positioning units not only increase the size of our rental pool, but also increase the overall quality and functionality of the range. The following products will be available to rent from the beginning of 2020.

SPRINT-Nav 505 4k System

The SPRINT-Nav 505 4k system for underwater navigation with a built in Doppler Velocity Log DVL

Sonardyne's SPRINT-Nav is an all-in-one subsea navigation instrument for underwater vehicles and is depth rated to 4,000 metres. It combines Sonardyne's SPRINT INS (Inertial Navigation System), the Syrinx DVL 600 kHz (Doppler Velocity Log), and high accuracy intelligent pressure sensor in a single housing. The SPRINT-Nav’s dual algorithm capability allows for simultaneous use from one instrument, for example, AHRS plus DVL for ROV piloting, and INS plus DVL for survey operations.

SPRINT 505 4k System

The SPRINT 505 sensor combines Ultra-short Baseline USBL and Long Baseline LBL positioning with Doppler Velocity Log (DVL)
The SPRINT 505 is an acoustically aided Subsea INS for underwater vehicles, and depth rated to 4,000 metres. It is a combined AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) and AAINS (Acoustically Aided Inertial Navigation System). Running both the AHRS and INS algorithms concurrently allows inertial navigation to start, or restart, instantaneously on receipt of a position update as the AHRS seamlessly provides orientation to the INS on start-up. This avoids the lengthy ‘alignment’ period common to other INS systems.

Syrinx DVL 4k

The SYRINX DVL Doppler Velocity Log sensor

The Syrinx DVL 4k is a 600 kHz Doppler Velocity Log for both surface and subsea vehicles and depth rated to 4,000 metres. The adaptive bottom lock technology inside the Syrinx provides consistency and reliability over challenging and changing topography, and works at an altitude higher than 85% of the world’s subsea infrastructure. This reduces the amount of time a vehicle has to dive on free inertial.

Mini-Ranger 2 USBL

Sonardyne Mini-Ranger 2 Ultra-short Baseline (USBL)

The Mini-Ranger 2 USBL is a sixth-generation (6G) Ultra-Short BaseLine (USBL) underwater positioning system. It offers a standard operating range of 995 metres and the ability to simultaneously track up to 10 targets, such as divers, ROVs (Remotely Operated Vechile) and structures, at very fast update rates.

Micro-Ranger 2 USBL

Sonardyne Micro-Ranger 2 Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL)

The Micro-Ranger 2 USBL is designed to be a shallow water USBL system for tracking of divers and small ROVs and AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles). Extremely portable and quick to mobilise, the Micro-Ranger 2 can be deployed from any waterside location or vessel, including RHIBs (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat). This makes it ideal for supporting marine operations conducted in rivers, lakes and coastal waters. The system has an operating range of 995 metres.

WSM6+ 1k Omni Transponder

The WSM6+ 1k Omni Ultra-Short BaseLine USBL Transponder

The WSM6+ 1k Omni Transponder sends signals in multiple directions and is rated to a depth of 1,000 metres. The Wideband Sub-Mini 6 Plus (WSM 6+) is Sonardyne’s latest generation of versatile USBL transponders/responders that support Wideband®2 signals. It is is designed for ROTV (Remotely Operated Towed Vechile) and ROV positioning, and tracking other mobile targets.

WSM6+ 4k MF Directional Transponder

The WSM6+ 4k MF Directional USBL Transponder for offshore ROTV and ROV operations

The WSM6+ 4k MF Directional Transponder sends signals in one direction and is rated to a depth of 4,000 metres. The Wideband Sub-Mini 6 Plus (WSM 6+) is Sonardyne’s latest generation of versatile USBL transponders/responders that support Wideband®2 signals. It is designed for towfish and ROV positioning, and tracking other mobile targets.

Nano transponder with depth sensor

The Nano transponder Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) with depth sensor for positioning and offshore surveys
The Nano Transponder is Sonardyne’s smallest USBL transponder that has compatibility with the Ranger 2 USBL topside systems; Micro, Mini and Standard. The Nano transponder features a connector-less design and is instead recharged and programmed via the Nano Docking Station, which takes around 12 hours to fully recharge the high capacity battery. This gives up to 15 hours of in-water use with a position update rate of once every five seconds.
