Sonardyne's SPRINT-Nav is an all-in-one subsea navigation instrument for underwater vehicles and is depth rated to 4,000 m. It combines Sonardyne’s SPRINT INS, Syrinx DVL 600 kHz (Doppler Velocity Log) and high accuracy intelligent pressure sensor in a single housing that is one of the smallest combined inertial navigation instruments on the market.

The unit is comprised of three high grade Ring Laser Gyros (RLG) and accelerometers. These ultra-reliable sensors are used also for safety critical navigation by the majority of the world’s large commercial aircraft.

SPRINT-Nav’s dual algorithm capability allows for simultaneous use from one instrument, e.g. AHRS plus DVL for ROV piloting, INS plus DVL for survey operations.

The SPRINT and Syrinx components can be operated as standalone sensors, independently of one another depending on the need. SPRINT-Nav is calibration free.

With power-pass-through, aiding sensors can be powered directly, reducing cabling cost and complexity. Sensor offsets are rigid and very accurately known, helping to reduce systematic errors in lever arm measurements.

NSH Included

The Navigation Sensor Hub (NSH) forms part of a Navigation Processor; a ‘one-box’ solution designed to meet the complete on-board requirements of any acoustic operation.

The NSH is the interface between the in-water acoustic instruments, sensors and the Navigation Computer which runs the acoustics positioning software. In addition to accurately time-stamping incoming data from external devices such as gyro, VRU and GPS, the NSH also provides power and communications for ship-borne acoustic transceivers.

Features

  • Aiding supported: USBL, Depth, DVL, Zero Velocity, Manual Position, LBL position & GNSS
  • AHRS/INS Settle Time: <5 minutes (AHRS), instantaneous (INS)
  • INS DVL Aided Accuracy (Typical Survey): 0.02% position error for distance travelled
  • INS DVL Aided Accuracy (Distance from Origin): 0.07% position error for distance travelled
  • INS USBL and DVL Aided INS: 4-10 times improvement in precision*
  • INS Heading Accuracy: 0.04° Sec Lat
  • Roll/Pitch Accuracy: 0.01°

* INS also provides improvements in short term accuracy through rejection of outliers.
