Delivering business-changing training in Brazil

6 December 2018

We are pleased to report on a first of its kind EIVA NaviSuite software training session hosted at DOF Subsea in Macaé, Brazil.

Conducted by Kevin Tomanka, technical manager at maritime surveying specialist and EIVA’s North American representative, OARS-HPSG, the training provided guidance and best working practices on advanced autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) data processing in NaviSuite.

While the training was the third based around EIVA’s NaviSuite to be delivered to DOF in two years, it marked the first time that teaching on NaviSuite Deep Learning and NaviSuite Workflow Manager was delivered in the southern hemisphere.

Novel content designed for better operations

NaviSuite Deep Learning for pipeline inspections is one of our latest software products, and it works in combination with eventing features in NaviPac, the NaviSuite product for navigation and positioning, as well as our 3D/4D modelling and visualisation software, NaviModel.

Complemented by NaviSuite Workflow Manager, our tool for automating survey data processing workflows, NaviSuite Deep Learning represents a powerful new approach to tackling traditional survey operations.

'Tools like the Workflow Manager are the clear path forward for data processing and it is good to see that these advanced methods are being embraced early by DOF.'

Kevin Tomanka, Technical Manager at OARS-HPSG

Naturally, new software requires an initial effort and investment in time to master, but the potential long-term, operational benefits are hard to ignore.

As Kevin said: ‘The training was well received. I think it was a good opportunity for the group to gain exposure to the latest features being developed within NaviSuite. Tools like the Workflow Manager are the clear path forward for data processing and it is good to see that these advanced methods are being embraced early by DOF.’

Commenting on the challenge of adopting new tools, Kevin said: ‘Working to implement an innovation is always difficult at first, and then hopefully it pays off over time. I think that the students at this course caught on quickly to these new tools and they will now have an advantage until the competition catches up.’

Training in response to needs of the local market

'Attending training on Deep Learning and Workflow Manager means developing the skills that enable survey teams to respond to increasing operational demands.'
Antonio Felipe Silva, EIVA Business Development Manager for Brazil

Hosted in Brazil, the training was delivered to participants representing a lively offshore market, exhibiting strong demand for solutions that can optimise their operational activities.

Describing the training as representing a significant opportunity for participants to gain a competitive edge, Antonio Felipe Silva, EIVA Business Development Manager for Brazil, commented: ‘EIVA Deep Learning and Workflow Manager streamline the efficiency of survey operations, and facilitate delivery of fast, accurate data processing for the end user.

Attending training on these tools therefore means developing the skills that enable survey teams to respond to increasing operational demands we see in the local market today.’

Indeed, when coupled with a rack server, NaviSuite Deep Learning can process and classify some 500 images per second – easily enabling processing of multiple video streams in parallel, and ultimately saving a surveyor’s time and money.

We hope all participants enjoyed their training last month and that we will welcome some of our readers to EIVA NaviSuite training in the future.
